I finally was able to finish this story, a week late. So beautiful, tragic, and moving. Thank you for making the time to bring this story to life for all of us.
This made me cry. To be gifted with this story from the perspective of the tree, to embody the experience of the tree, I felt it deeply, which I often don't do in reading non-fiction articles, etc. Truly powerful. Beautifully done, Julie. Such a dance between the horror and hope. I am so struck by the trees just lying there for, in the end, no reason at all. Heartbreaking. Beautiful language woven into the story. "Water conspires with the sun to wear the sky like a skin." Keep writing!
Loved this and I am glad the finale landed on Earth Day. The ending reminds me so much of the Wet'suwet'en Land defenders struggle in northern British Columbia. When will we learn. Great writing, perfect story. Heartbreak but hope. Courage needed. I cried, buckets. In the Wet'suwet'en language Yintah "time immemorial" , where we live, earth, land, territory.
Julie this is exceptional writing. The sad tale of needless destruction is hard to take but the heartwarming aspect of the owners love and stewardship for their land inspires us to keep going.

This is a love story.
This is a moving story and it reminds us of this kind of mindless destruction happening on a massive scale every dayโฆ

Happy belated Earth Dayโค๏ธ
Tears rolling down my face. Sadness so great my chest hurts. When will we learn to do different?
This took courage to write. Thank you for not shying away from this truth.๐
That was rough. I appreciate you giving voice to nature. Not much more to say right now.
Your story touched me deeply. Thank you for sharing your gift. I look forward to reading more of your wisdom in the future.
