I love the idea that we could talk with trees. I also love how you used the imagery of lines in this β the red line in the map, the pink ribbon for marking and the blue thread for connecting.
Thereβs a massive oak tree that must be over 200 years old that grows in the strip of earth between the sidewalk and a major road beside my building. Itβs in my line of sight where I sit and work every day. Every 10th person that walks by on the sidewalk will acknowledge the tree in some way. Some people actually stop and embrace it. Others, passing in a group may simply reach out and open hand and caress it.
I never talked with a tree, but I can feel the years of life in a tree when I touch them and the density when I hug them. Especially the old ones. I walk in the forests of the Pacific Northwest. Lucky me. But I do have to look at the stumps of butchered trees as I drive to the protective forests. It is heart wrenching. I never get used to it a never will. Thank you for writing this story. It is captivating. β€οΈ
Oh, I was so happy to get this in my In Box! Iβm enjoying the story. I have a couple minor suggestions (always to take or leave). Will email them to you. Loving it. The blue yarn is brilliant. Keep going!

This is excellent, Julie. Coincidentally, or perhaps not, I just started reading Finding the Mother Tree.
I can tell I am going to be sad as I keep reading this excellent storyπ’ Thank you for writing it.
I loved the line 'sap from dinosaur times'. Framing it in that way is lovely.
Iβm bracing for some inevitability here, Julie. Wonderful writing!
Love this!
